Luton Calling (by The Metatron)
The Metatron can be contacted by e-mail at metatron@livecircuit.net.

Bank Holiday Sunday, and the latest from sunny Luton before I go to the pub.
As expected, the last Park night was incredible. Two out of town bands brought us very angry ska from THE BALLISTICS, plus STUPID living up to their name and entertaining with their own amusing style. Topping the night off were the excellent PHONIC RAPTURE, showing off a new stage image and coming across as very tight and dare I say it, professional. Self proclaimed "Stadium Rock" not to be missed.

The ambition of Luton bands continues as the bigger names played Bedford, Hitchin, St Albans and London, while the newer bands played all the local venues at every opportunity. Good luck to them all.

Still the most prolific name at the moment is AKIVA, who as well as charting well again on "Pulse Unsigned", have had multiple shows in London. Close behind are THE OCCASION, who managed to get a support slot with The Tokyo Dragons, and the re-emerging BOWFINGER playing the Oxen Road showcase and Filmstock. All three bands are showing how performances should be done and are gathering even more fans because of it.

On the venue front, it has been a bit of a mixed month.
We seem to have gained The Edge and the Student Union as semi regular venues at the "heavier" end of the musical spectrum, while we lost Red Red Red on Tuesday nights. PDM Promotions have begun their shows at The Exchange with some success. They are still looking for bands from all genres for future shows.

Also this month we had the University backed Luton FM. A special mention to DJ Andy O’Hara (aka The Park’s own DJ Josh Balti) who, on his twice a week breakfast show with "TJ", used and abused his broadcasting powers to promote local bands, events and websites and played several tracks from many of those bands.

Bank Holiday Monday brought us Luton Carnival, which despite performances from well established acts BOWFINGER and THE GRAHAM ROBINS BAND, has cruelly ignored the vibrant "younger" live scene in the town.

However, the fight back has begun with "Shoot The Sun" holding two all day events at The Well on July 23rd and 24th, and "Vandalism Begins @ Home" organising their own weekly shows at The Well, from June 24th onwards. Another all day event, Luton Aid, will also be taking place on July 30th at the Student Union, with 10 bands on the bill.

Co-operation, ambition and a real buzz is now being generated in Luton. Don’t miss out on it.

No websites for this month… You can find all the links for bands, venues, news and promoters at http://vandalismbegins.tripod.com.

And now for the pub.

Tonight it’s The Park again… AKIVA, TILT and DEAD GIRL ON PAVEMENT. Do I feel a review coming on?

The Metatron.

New Night for Local bands announced

Sundays at The Exchange in Kings Street, Luton.
The first Sunday of the month we' re looking at putting on Rock/Metal/Hardcore and on the third Sunday of the month we want to put on anything else that interests us. That could be Blues, Funk, Jazz, Folk, Country, anything (we've eclectic tastes).
We do not charge bands to play and there are no catches around you buying tickets in advance or any of the other small prints that operate. We pay based on the number of people that turn up on the night so the more people that you bring along the more you get paid.
For more information look at www.pdmmusic.com

First Night is 1st May 2005 (Hardcore Metal)

Featuring

Raise The Dead, Baysix, The Stars Have Fallen and Your Demise.
